Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Could you tell me more about how you plan to solve my mosquito problem?:

Our registered technicians have over 40 hours of training and have passed a state mandated exam to become properly certified to apply our treatment. The technician will walk your property and inspect for mosquito sources and problem areas. Once identified, the technician will utilize a gas operated backpack sprayer to mist these areas, thereby establishing a barrier. An individual treatment will last about three weeks. The technician will also perform treatments for areas of standing water, in order to keep the mosquito larvae from developing into blood sucking adults.

Q: What is the material he is spraying?:

All of the barrier spray chemicals we use are synthetic forms of pyrethrins called pyrtethroids. Pyrethrins are insecticides that are derived from the extract of chrysanthemum flowers. Pyrethroids are used in numerous commercial products that consumers use to control insects. Products such as household insecticides, pet shampoos and sprays, and even lice shampoos applied directly to the scalp contain pyrtehroids.

Q: How long does a spray session last?:

A typical treatment (including the preliminary walk-thru) will average about thirty minutes. Larger yards may take longer to treat.

Q: Where is the barrier spray going to be applied?:

Our goal in doing a pre-spray walk of the property is to seek out the "hot spots" where mosquitoes will be loafing. The most common areas to find mosquitoes during the day include: the underside of the leaves of dense/shrubby plants, under decks, and in damp shady areas of the property. Our spray units allow us to properly treat all of these areas appropriately to ensure your mosquito population is effectively treated . Once the technician has determined the specific areas to be sprayed for your property, he will start by spraying the outer perimeter shrubs. The technician will then work his way to the perimeter of your actual home (or other structure) focusing on the shrubs and other identified "hot spots".

Q: How long before I can go in the yard after you have sprayed?:

After one of our pyrethroid treatments you need stay out of the treated area for thirty minutes to ensure that the chemical has dried. After that there are no limitations to safely enjoying your outdoor space.

Q: Is it dangerous?:

No. Our technicians will be wearing goggles and basic dust/painter’s masks to prevent irritation from the airborne chemical that is emitted as a mist. This personal protective equipment is worn as a result of the potential for the airborne chemical (mist) to blow back upon the sprayer. When a blow back occurs, the technician could potentially aggravate existing respiratory conditions or be affected with hay-fever like reactions.

Q: Will the treatment damage my plants at all?:

No. The chemical we use in our spray applications is a plant derivative and will not harm plants.

Q: The city has a mosquito truck come through and spray, what makes your service better?:

Our technicians are trained to provide a custom treatment for each individual situation. They will walk your property each visit and treat it with a methodology specific to your outdoor space. A mosquito truck sprays a dense fog intending to eradicate adult mosquitoes, however their service can only reach pockets of infested areas in close proximity to the truck. In many cases, the backyard mosquitoes are left un-phased.

Q: How do you treat mosquito larvae?:

Our techinicians are equipped with granule treatments for standing water applications anywhere larvae may be present.

Q: I have a pet, locked gate, security guard, etc., how will the technician get in?:

Our trained professionals will obtain any information pertinent to your location when you sign up. Our technicians are equipped with handheld PDAs which will notify them of all the necessary information to properly access/satisfy each customer.

Q: How will I know when the technician has sprayed?:

Your technician will leave a doorhanger for your perusal upon completion of your treatment. Information on this doorhanger will include your date and time of service, as well as any comments and helpful hints the technician may have to help you keep your yard as uninviting as possible for mosquitoes, ticks and other pests.

Q: I’ll be out of town for a few months and won’t need treatment, is there a credit or anything like that?:

The real benefit of enrolling in a mosquito program is to continually knock back the mosquitoes on a regular basis. Should you not be around for an extended period of time, we still recommend treating the property on a continual basis (every 21 days) to stay on top of your mosquito problem. That being said, we are more than willing to work with you and cater our sprays to meet your desires.

Q: Will the treatment affect my goldfish pond or swimming pool?:

Our technicians are trained to apply the chemical in ways that will avoid fish ponds. While an overspray will have no affect on pool water, our technicians are trained to not allow the chemical to come in contact with the water.

Q: Can you treat second story gardens/verandas/etc.?:

Yes. Any area that is accessible is treatable. Please be advised, however; that we will not put our technicians in a dangerous situation (i.e. have them climb a ladder to treat an elevated patio, etc.).
